| Stadtbahn Obersee filed on: 16.01.2009 (16th Jan 2009) There has been a resurgence in interest in light rail projects over recent years, with projects having been suggested or being considered in places as diverse as Lausanne, Sankt Gallen, Biel, Winterthur or Lugano. With Stadtbahn Zug and Glattalbahn having made it to reality in recent years, the interest in other projects is growing. In the immediate Zürich area, Stadtbahn Limmattal and Ringbahn Hardwald are being actively pursued and no longer appear as speculative as they once were. The latest addition to the wish list, however, is called Stadtbahn Obersee. This project centers on the railway link that crosses Lake Zürich on a causeway between Rapperswil and Pfäffikon SZ and envisages a "Stadtbahn" that would share these tracks with existing services, extending to Kaltbrunn along the northern shore and to Lachen along the southern shore, with a possible further extension from Pfäffikon towards Einsideln. Despite local euphoria, the project is not currently being awarded a high priority by the federal authorities. Obersee is the name given to the part of Lake Zürich beyond the above causeway. It lies party in the canton of Sankt Gallen and partly in Schwyz. source: bahnhofplatz.net
